The Super Falcons of Nigeria now have new group opponents in group B of the 2018 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AWCON) as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) have replaced Kenya with Equatorial Guinea.

Kenya replaces Equatorial Guinea

Both Kenya and Equatorial Guinea contested in the qualification round for the 2018 AWCON just as the Super Falcons eliminated the Gambia, the Kenyans were victorious.

However, after the encounter, the Equatorial Guinea football association stated to the CAF’s Appeal Committee that Annette Jacky Messomo of Kenya who featured against them was an ineligible player.

No result of the appeal was received as the Super Falcons were drawn along with South Africa, Zambia, and Kenya in group B of the 2018 AWCON.

However, a recent statement by the CAF Disciplinary Committee has no changed events for both countries stating that Messomo should not have featured for Kenya against Equatorial Guinea.

The statement said, “The appeal lodged by the Federación Ecuatoguineana de Fútbol is admissible

“The decision no 001-CAI08.09.2018 is overruled.”

“The player Annette Jacky Messomo is eligible to play for the National Team of Equatorial Guinea.”

“The National Team of Equatorial Guinea is reintegrated in the Total African Women’s Cup of Nations 2018.”

Equatorial Guinea will now compete in group B instead of Kenya and will take on the Super Falcons of Nigeria in their last group game scheduled for Saturday, November 24 at the Cape Coast Stadium.
